I am a wife, mom and professional triathlete. I was born and raised in South Africa before moving to NYC and settling down in NJ. I train hare all year with a few winter escapes to New Mexico where I train with Coach Paulo Sousa and a few of his athletes. I have been involved with triathlon for ten years and have competed on the pro level for the last three years. I love it and I enjoy the travel, racing, and all the friends I meet along the way.

My Tri Story:
My introduction to triathlon was a ski, mountain bike and cross country run race. I won it and found out a week later that I was pregnant. I then got into triathlons a few years after the birth of my son. I had moved into an area where there were alot of good triathletes and as a long time runner was pursuaded to get into triathlon. I was thrilled to qualify for Ironman Hawaii at my first attempt at Ironman. I was racing in the top ten place up until the last thirteen miles where I bonked and manged to hold on to qualify in my age group. I then began my quest to be the best triathlete I could be. I really wanted to feel like I could race the whole Ironman race...and after ten ironman I am still working on this. I have raced IM Arizona 08, IM Lake Placid 08, IM Louisville 08 and now I look forward to being out in Kona to race the World Championships.
I loved Timberman too. But, I have to say I really enjoyed the time I spent in Florida. I took a whole week off and had a great condo with lots of my friends. I am very glad I did it as my first IM. I haven't decided where I am going for my second IM yet. Perhaps Western Australia or Brazil.
I think that it is great that you've chosen to have a family and race. Do you know my friend and coach, Heather Gollnick? She is a special lady and like you has a family. She is also a member of iAmTri.
I'm sure your husband is a great support.
May I ask where is Point Pleasant?
Good racing in Kona. I'll be watching when you get on the podium!

Jacqui, thanks for the messages. Yes, did the 8 marathons in 8 days in April this year. It was great, loved every minute. It was an adventure... I plan to run from London to Paris in early 2009, it seems the logical next step !!! As for Comrades, yes it's on the list. I have a good friend who has done it 11 times..... yep, 11 times. Pretty sure I will get to the race one day with my friend as a helper.
Good luck at Hawaii, got a few friends heading out to the sun and wind; have a great day ;-)
