Lots of swimming

....still working hard on my technique and on breathing every 3rd stroke. Swam 8000m last week and the pool was really quiet all week and I had a lane to myself. Today was allowed into elite lane!!....not sure I swam any better but certainly enjoyed the experience. My left leg continues to improve. Have used heat pad and taken saunas, continued with exercises and had massages.....and rested leg from power walking and running and it is responding well. Have rigged up turbo and planning my winter… Continue

beginning to improve

Oh yes indeed...all the work on the left hip and careful management of the leg has meant more power whilst fast walking and have managed 2 short runs this week and no pain. Swimming is still a joy and I continue to enjoy my sessions at the 50m uni pool.4 sessions of 2000m. X-biking is my new passion and it's helping to get my HR to it's max in the absense of running. Going to run off-road for the next few weeks and build up time on my legs. And of course loads of strength work on the hip.CU...Su… Continue

Hopeful

Last week, went to see a different physio who was recommended to me. I was sceptical and not too keen to spend out more money on top of what I've already wasted, but husband persuaded me to make an appointment...he would pay! She has a clinic in the cricket pavillion at Bath cricket ground and a nice little set up. She listened to all my woes and after an examination declared that my left pelvis has anterioly rotated and has resulted in my sore leg. Looks like a result at last! I have followed h… Continue

DIM

Went up to Lichfield and spectated the Double IMUK...what an event...fantastic...ordinary people doing the most extraordinary thing. So well organised and I'm so glad to have witnessed it. Had some luck...a physio there had a look at my leg and it would seem that the gastroc medial head it is...scar tissue preventing the muscle from stretching and working properly, shown some self-help massage technique and fingers are crossed. have joined Bath uni gym and will use the cross trainer for a few w… Continue

Swim, swim and more swimming

Only exercise I am doing is swimming...no probs, as I live near to Bath Uni 50m pool. I've had something chronic go wrong with my left leg since last year and I'm now resting it from running and biking for a while, to try to get rid of the nuisance!! Spent a fair bit on "experts" and they think it is soft tissue damage, rest being my only option. So into an intensive swim period....5 swims per week and some strength exercises.....I so miss running outdoors though. I have got over my DNS at Aus… Continue

The HR zones are very precise, well done that looks like a sound structure to me. I guess that you do your Long rides in E2.2. I would suggest that because you are carrrying your own weight that the run HR may need some adjutments by 5-10 beats, however you seem to have it pretty much worked out for where I am sat. For an Iron race what HR would you expect to maintain on the bike. This is critical because fatigue that you build up here will be directly transferred into your run.. and anything can happen. cheers

Susie -Good point about knowing your max. What HR do you do your long bike rides at? Runs at? I have had tests done I was shocked to find that I was, on one occasion working way too hard and that the relatively conservative heart rate with greater efficiency was the way to go over the long distance. I had a recent test that also found that I have lapsed into being just too easy of late. Pinpointing the HR can make training so effective. Regards

Thanks for the encouragement, Susie :)
I started my training again yesterday, and now I am so sore! Haha... but I'm excited again. We'll see how this goes!

Hey there , thanks for the response. I have had a low season . I did IM South Africa in April, and I could not top that so my motivation since then has been nill. I did the Helsinki Marathon in August so that kept my Mojo working . I have kept running but I am in repose now until I begin serious training for IM Austria next year . If you need a detatched view of your training or planning let me know I am happy to help and we are probably neighbours. You can find my email on the British Triathlon find a coach section. This is not a business pitch, this is a kind offer. Look after the wonky knee. Mr K

Hey susie
Thanks for your comments.
What rotten luck you have in IM races.Your note above about riding through Biddestone reminds me of one of my favourite rides; Castle Combe, Biddestone, Corsham, Laycock, over to via Kingsdown (golf course )onto Bath for a Starbucks and then onto sunny Bitton. then Home. I am rubbish at writing these things, but when I see your CV I think you do need to take stock of things before your Barcelona event. I am happy to help just ask...Mr K

Susie, how you doing? Been a while since I last heard from you..... hope you are well ;-)
I am running several Ultras at the moment and enjoying a break from the pool and bike. The bike I am not too worried about but I can't leave things too long as far as the pool goes, I soon loose the feel. Squeeze in 1-2 sessions per week I hope.
Keep training !!!!

Hi Susie. If I get to DIM it will be for the night shift to help out two friends who are taking part. My plan is to arrive 11pm and leave 7/8 am..... so probably not the best for discussing training plans. Obviously love to help out with a plan for 08/09. Maybe we can discuss early next week. If you go to www.trainingtrips.net you can pick up my mobile number. Hopefully see you Saturday at some point....
