What is your favorite quote or phrase that keeps you going in life and in tri? I saw one from Ian Corless on his iamtri page that got me thinking about this topic. His reads "Life is not a journey to the grave to arrive safely in a well preserved body, but rather to skid in broadside, thoroughly used up, totally worn out and loudly proclaiming "WOW! What a ride!". Two short ones that I have taped to my computer are STAY STRONG...LIVE LONG and LIFE'S SHORT...LIVE LARGE! Another one is "Don't go to the grave with life unused". Scott Tinley coined the following "Above all train hard, eat light and avoid TV and negative people." A bunch of iamtri-ers have added theirs.....What's your favorite(s)?

I can't remember where I picked this up but when it’s cold and wet (and believe me it is this side of the pond) it keeps me going.

"Risk more than others think is safe.
Care more than others think is wise.
Dream more than others think is practical.
Expect more than others think is possible"

Some more I just got in a card from a dear friend and triathlete from San Diego....

>"Life is not measured by the number of breaths we take, but by the moments that take our breath away."

>"Life isn't waht you want it to be....It's what you make it become."

>"The purpose of life, is to love it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experiences."

She also shared an inspirational story about her father and "pennies from heaven" and provided me an encouragement as I embark on my first 70.3 this weekend....(Thanks Cathy!)....Her note reads....

My father has long been my driving force when it comes to how I live my life. His life lessons to me, makes me much of what and who I am today. He and I ran over 16,000 miles together before he lost his life to cancer at teh age of 56. So now I run with his spirit supporting me all the way. As cancer stole his body of strength our runs became walks and soon only a block or two. We seemed to always find pennies on the ground during those walks and would keep them in a special jar. On our last walk.....I picked up a penny and Dad said, "When you find pennies in the future still pick them up because they will be from me. They will be pennies from heaven."

I can't begin to tell you how many pennies from heaven I have collected on my miles and miles of running and in races when I needed that extra little nudge off support. Once at the end of a 19 mile workout I was feeling sorry for myself and wanting to stop then I found just what I needed.....a penny from heaven.....I kicked in the last mile like it was mile one. I have stopped to pick up a penny in almost every race I have done. Others around me think I am a bit crazy stopping in a race to pick up a penny but they have no idea how important that penny is to ME.

Soooo....I picked through my jar and found you a 1970 (for your 70.3 race) lucky penny from heaven. May it bring you strength, support, faith, and LUCK!!!

Man I love this topic, i searched the net the other day looking for quotes. My wife works at Nike and she got from years at Nike:
What lies before us and what lies behind us are tiny matters compared to what lies within us.

If you have a body you are an athlete.

To give anything less than your best is to sacrifice the gift.

Not sure if the wording was 100% but still like them

Thought of something else...

This isn't a quote but a line from a movie, a kids movie, called Bridge to Terebithia.
I find myself saying or thinking of this line often. It's silly when you first read it but its
power is in its simplicity.

"Together, Nothing Crushes Us"

"Together" can mean a multitude of things, your family, wife, husband, significant other, your triathlon group, social network, other athletes at a race, whatever... Nothing can crush you if you stand together. :0)
