Rebecca, thanks so much for your feedback on Vineman! Interesting about the swim -- All of the tri's I've done have been in big, deep open water (like the ocean) so the thought of swimming in shallow water for my first full distance swim is somewhat relieving. (The swim is my weakest event.) I really appreciate that you took time to give me some good notes about the event. I will keep you posted on how it goes in July!
Rebecca, With the new run course change , it will not be as challenging. I live in st. george and the new run course will be all SPECTATORS. LOL it wraps around all downtown. I find it a good change, as it will also be my first Iron distance. The Bike is still challenging , but very scenery oriented, so you forget some about the rollers and gradual grinds. As far as real steep hills, theres 2 that stand out, one very short 1/4 mile and the other less then a mile. There are some other graduals, but they allow you to spin up them. Hopefully that helps. Later and good luck !
I read your post about the st. George IM. I volunteered there and it is the closest IM race to me, I live in SLC. It is a very hilly course both on the bike and the run (2 loops). There can be extreme winds and heat as well. The last 2 years there was no wind on the day of the race, someone prayed to the IM gods, but the day after was really bad. One hard thing about St. George, is it is so early so most of the training (at least where I live) has to be indoors, and I might just kill myself with that much time on my bike trainer! I entered the Kona lottery and actually got in, so that will be my first IM, but before that, I was thinking Arizona. It is supposed to be a good first IM from what I hear.
