How Do You Build Your "Mental Game" for Triathlon?

Perhaps I'm a bit simple, I just love doing it. I like being in shape. I like being able to do almost anything I want to do at any time I want to do it. If someone yells "Hey, wanna do a marathon in…

Xterra Wetsuits

I have an Xterra, and haven't had any problems with it. In fact the black color makes me look thin:-)

Great inspirational movies for indoor training

I just watched "The Hurt Locker". I'd recommend it if for no other reason than it was a good movie. I also liked "300", but this is definately a guy movie.

What is your profession?

Teacher, used to be a principal but it required too much time and cut into the fun part of my life. I'm not nice if I don't have fun (training and racing is fun - inconceivable)

Just call me IronGut. I haven't used CarboPro, but maybe with your high recommendation I'll work it into the plan. So what do you mix a non-flavored drink with that can last for a couple of hours on a 90 degree day?

Matt, you're right. I've found that even though I mix a batch suitable for me, after 7 hours very few things sound appealing. The Perp is graat on the bike but I've used Perp for just a short period into the run then switch to gels. I've found that…

I thought the same thing too when I first started using it. The nice thing about Hammer products is that all the Hammer products are compatible. So, if you mix a 1 to 2 hr bottle with the main ingredient Perp, first throw in a scoop of Heed. It's a…

Hydration is only part of it. You may need to look at your diet and see if you're taking in enough sodium and electrolytes - or perhaps too many. I've coached swimmers for 20 years and many swimmers often tense up and forcibly point their toes a lit…

How do you like the dvd's? How's the quality and do they get repetitious? Just looked at your Trek, nice bike.

OK, so how does everyone train for the WI hills?

Are saltsticks what they sound like they are? My question, based on the average amount of salt the average person takes in each day is...why do you need additional salt? The average diet is 3x what it really needs to be. Too much salt will definatel…

It's probably been said, but you should try whatever you're considering to see how it works for you. Try to duplicate the race conditions as best as possible taking into account intensity, course and temp. Like others, I use Hammer products and I've…

I think in season begins when you realize your commitment to one specific event. I don't think this it's soley based on milage or workout time but rather on how you feel about what you're doing. For me, in season begins when I realize the the calend…

So what kind of milage do you guys put in to prep for the race? (outdoor training only) I try to get in at least 3000 bike and 25 to 40 miles per week running. I have to really increase my running milage, it's without a doubt my weakest link. Swimmi…

About Me:
I live in a town of 15K of which there is one triathlete, me. Besides the lack of any hills, it's a great place to run and bike. All country roads, few cars and miles and miles of blacktop that for the most part is kept in pretty good condition.
My Tri Story:
While attending college, a triathlon team always saw me out biking or running and one day asked why I hadn't joined them. As it turned out, I just swam, biked and ran and really never put any thought behind my workouts and never combined my workouts with the world of triathlon. So, thats how it all got started and years later I'm still at it.

I'm a repeat finisher!
Tri Distance:
Long course (or approx 140.6 mi/225.3km)

Training Partners, Training Groups, Event Meet-ups

Great Floridian Iron Distance 11:15

Steve,

The quality of the DVDs are actually very good. Well edited and overall good comentary and motivation. I think any DVD would/will get repitious after watching several times. I have 4 that I rotate through. I have Vol 1 - 4 of the Virtual Road Series. Overall, I think it is a good investment. And you can always mute the DVD, listen to music and just follow the gearing selection on the bottom of the screen. Hope training is going well!
