Eagleman in MD was also a good race. Some high winds and the run isn't particularly shaded but it was a well organized, nice race. I also just did the Rhode Island 70.3 last weekend and it was a beautiful, but more challenging course.
So... I have 1200 to spend on a wheel or wheelset. Eventually whatever wheels i get will be used for ironmans so I want a good set. But this summer the wheels will be used for the eagleman 70.3 and rhode island 70.3. any advice on what wheels or whe…
Ok, two subjects here that I would extremely appreciate a little feedback on =)
Number One: GI Distress... I've just began getting back into running on a regular basis for a few weeks now after getting over an injury. I've noticed that on most, if…
Originally from Bethlehem PA but currently in Morgantown, WV. Graduating in May with a degree in Nutrition from West Virginia University. Absolutely hooked on tri's. Did a handful of sprints this summer and am registered for the Eagleman 70.3 and Rhode Island 70.3 races next summer which are my two big ones. Love to train (unfortunately currently taking care of a stress fracture), but in the mean time swimming and biking my tail off. Love tri's and can't wait to do an ironman... contemplating skipping grad school and moving to Boulder to train ( i wish).
My Tri Story:
always loved sports and i've been into nutrition for a longg time, hence my college studies and my intended career path. so i thought no better way to incorporate different sports and nutrition together than to do triathlons. i'm competetive at heart but at the same time i enjoy and relish the chance at racing and finding out what i really am made of.
after having ACL reconstructions on both of my knees as a teen and currently a stress fracture, i've learned obstacles are inevitable, they come and they go. how you deal with them is how you're able to grow (didn't intend for that to rhyme but hey... it works!)
i love training. i love being told i'm crazy for going for a swim, run, or bike before the sun comes up. i never feel more excited than the moment after i register for a tri (well besides being at the actual starting line). many of my friends don't understand these feelings, but i dont expect them to. triathlon is a personal choice, lifestyle, and challenge i've decided to take on full speed, without looking back.
all i know is i can't wait to race again
happy training and stay healthy everyone!

Hey Mike! Thanks for the congrats! I'm pretty excited to get into this sport!! I like your tri story- reminds me of my life- everyone thinks I'm crazy. But I just can't get enough of this stuff. I don't really have plans to be out east any time soon- but if I am I'll let ya know. Same goes for you if you come out to the midwest aka the frozen tundra. Good luck with your recovery!
Hey Mike - Eagleman is a great race. Probably the best as far as fan and community support. Be prepared for anything when it comes to weather - Freezing to unbearably HOT (last year).
Rob Vig (columbia tri) is a great race coordinator so it is alway an amazing event. if you havent booked a room do so now or you will be driving 40+ minutes on race morning. Many of those who camped will never do so again after the heat last year.
Hi Mike... nice to meet you. Yes the Eagleman was my second triathlon I did. It's a great race and I really like the course. Unfortunately it was the hottest day of the year and I fell apart on the run. I finished but my i was pretty upset that my mile pace was over 12 mins. I also am registered for this years race and am expecting to improve. Im also considering the Rhode Island 70.3 but I wanted to register for a couple other ones that I thought would fill up quicker. For advice I would be prepared to run in some heat because there is a bunch of open areas where the sun just beats on you. I would also give that fracture time to heal and not rush to get back. Other than that I think you'll love it, I can see myself doing it for years to come.
Glad to hear you are on the road back to running as well. I'm with you, though, and plan to take it slow and easy so I don't go through this again. I know what you mean about feeling good to be running again, albeit slowly :) I have always run in Asics but since I tend to be a forefoot runner I wanted to try the Newtons. I bought them at Lake Placid but until this morning, haven't been able to try a real run in them. So far, they feel great! I'll keep you posted on them if you're interested.
hi there! Happy New Year! My stress fracture seems to be gone (fingers crossed!). I had another bone scan done the beginning of November and it had not healed 100% so was advised not to run yet. I have now started back to a 2 min run/1 min walk routine for a max of 30 minutes this week and so far, so good. I am going to keep it slow and easy for a while and use the xcountry skiing as cross training for the next couple of months and hopefully i'll be good for the season after that. We'll see! How about you? How are you doing?
Hi Mike, i see you had a stress fracture. Me too! Mine is taking a long time to heal but it was a severe one according to the tests. How long has it been for you and where is your stress fracture? Mine is in my lower leg (tibia).
