A beer at the finish line is the only thing that gets me through each and every race I do. For example, just an hour ago I finished a half marathon and even though its 11 am, my cold bud light lime is my reward. and worth every hill. We all have our…
Amy, come over and do the Highline Hustle with me. Mike Moyer may be coming over from Denver as well. One huge mistake people make prior to an Ironman event is that they don't plan on anything after the event, so when Ironman is over it's kind of li…
Sunny, here's an interesting comparison on the course comparisons in terms of difficulty. My time at St. George placed me in 447 place. In CdA that same time would have put me at 932 place. In Arizona it would have been good for only 1272! So, if yo…
Sunny, I've raced both. They are very different venues. The bike course at CdA is very hilly, though they are rollers and not nearly as bad as St. George. The run course at CdA is not bad at all, just some minor climbs with the toughest being at the…
Course comparisons: My time for SG put me in 447'th place. I did the same time in CDA two years ago and placed 932, and that same time would have placed me 1272 in Arizona. So, as Stacy put it, this was not just an Ironman, it was a SUPER Ironman. C…
Hats off to the organization and volunteers.
I was impressed, even blown away, by the support I received both times in CDA, but it did not compare to the St. George. The local community took it to another level. And for a first time event with the…
Valerie, so many of us have been there; where you just can't go on. (I dropped out of Arizona with a foot injury) It's ok. You'll be back. It's important to take something positive from the experience whether is was the training rides, the fitness y…
Okay, this whole string is hilarious! I'm not sure how I didn't read the entire thing before...just saw an occiasional "ate a Peep", "I love toast", and the forever "Beer gut" by Jeff ( a GJ friend of mine..Jeff and his beer gut and I go way back).…
*L* I don't drink soda either unless I'm going to a Big Head Todd & The Monsters concert and need to be awake past 9pm. I"m so pathetic.
BUT I will drink an Arnold Palmer. Ice tea w/Lemonade.
I'm the guy everyone gets behind on a windy day. Used to be strictly a runner and did ok for a 200 lbs guy, running 35 minute 10ks and qualifying for the Boston Marathon eight times. When I turned 40 injuries forced me cut back on running so I turned to cycling, then to triathlon. I've signed up for the Kona lottery 10 years in row with no success, bummer. But my ultimate tri goal is to race Ironman China in 2012. My daughters are both adopted from China and one comes from an impoverished town just north of the IM venue.
My Tri Story:
This is my tenth year in Triathlon. I can snag an AG award occasionally, but only in the short distances. Completed three IMs. I hated every one of them, but for some reason (like after a night of drinking with my buddies) I keep signing up. I love the tri lifestyle but I do this stuff for fun. Family first, job, then tri.
Thank you for your note. Indeed, it was nice meeting you and cheering on all of the IAMTRI'ers who raced. I commend you for running a solid race. Even if you feel that your wheels came off at mile 13 of the run, your finish time was phenominal.
I really appreciate what you wrote about your long distance experience and understand what you are talking about. I am signed up for IMAZ which will be my 3rd IM. I start training on June 1st, but really wonder if I will have the mental strength to get through the training and the race this time. I know I have the physical ability, I am just not sure about the mental aspect. So much of the long distance is mental and I wonder of the training will bring it out in me or if it needs to be there before I even start training. I suppose it is kind of like the chicken or the egg analagy. Regardless, I will start my training on June 1st with the plan of racing on November 21st and we will see how it all unfolds.
I'm positively sure your dog could beat my dog in a race. At 210lb's and breathing difficulties to boot it is lucky if he get's up to a speedy 2mph. Don't get out to Junction much. Was trying to convince my son to go to Mesa though. He's thinking community college for a while. Sounds like your training is going well, have to admit to being jealous of the 23mph time trial you posted. Still working on increasing my wattage and speed. I am faster than my dog though. Take care. Mike
