My Tri Story:
To arrive at my grave, saying, WOW! WHAT A RIDE.... !!!

"Sex the night before a race is only tiring if you have to go looking for it!" Bruce Fordyce, 9x Comrades winner

"Champions aren't made in gyms. Champions are made from something they have deep inside them-a desire, a dream, a vision...they have to have the skill and the will. But the will must be stronger than the skill." (Mohammed Ali)

Revolutions 53:12
And God said to triathletes: "Harden the fuck up!!" Amen.

"The greatest distance travelled in any achievement is the one between your ears"

"Run when you can, walk if you have to, crawl if you must; just never give up," Dean Karnazes

"If you start to feel good during an ultra, don’t' worry you'll get over it." - Gene Thibeault

Some may ask why I am running such long distances. There are reasons. During the ultras I come to a point where my body is almost dead. My mind has to take leadership. When it is very hard there is a war going on between the body and the mind. If my body wins, I will have to give up; if my mind wins, I will continue. At that time I feel that I stay outside of my body. It is as if I see my body in front of me; my mind commands and my body follows. This is a very special feeling, which I like very much. . . It is a very beautiful feeling and the only time I experience my personality separate from my body, as two different things." Yiannis Kouros

Thames Path 100k

To re cap. My re-run of the Thames Path section from Henley on Thames to Staines was a distance of 50k (32 miles) and was the run I performed on my 5th day of 8 marathons in 8 days. For those who don't remember, the 5th day was the day after my Dad had major surgery for stomach cancer. In April, when I initially ran I remembered stunning scenery, beautiful trails and great views. However, these memories blurred with the stress and worries of Dads operation. I therefore decided post the 8 marath… Continue

Coventry 40 mile Trail Ultra

Coventry Way 40 mile Trail Run Needless to say, the past weeks weather gave me some major concerns for an off road trail run that circumnavigates Coventry. On Saturday, the day before the race, the weather was horrendous with torrential rain and strong winds. It didn't look good.... Race morning came and the tring from the alarm got me out of bed quickly. A quick look out of the window confirmed the rain had eased but not stopped. A good breakfast of about 600 cals and 750 ml of electroly… Continue

Wellington IS a Goddess

Chrissie Wellington added another world title to her growing palmares Sunday when she won the the ITU Long Distance Almere, Netherlands, beating home favorite and eventual third-place finisher Yvonne Van Vlereken. Her newest world title will set nicely on Wellington's mantle, next to her 2007 Hawaii Ironman trophy and her 2006 ITU Olympic-distance age group champion trophy. The win was being hyped as a precursor the Wellington versus Van Vlereken battle to ensue at the Hawaii Ironman Wo… Continue

Hi Ian it was the Half Ireman.I did not meet Conal but emailed him a few times. He did a fantastic job, great race ,great atmosphere and alot of really helpful people. They are running a full distance race next year in the same venue.i am not sure if I am up to a full distance just yet, need alot of practice with nutrition.I don't know if mentally I am ready for a full distance ,I would probably die from anxiety just thinking about it.My wife and I have a new baby on the way and I am starting a college course along with work so not sure how much training time there will be.I will definately be back up north for the half ireman if not the full next year depending on winter training and how brave I feel .If I don't do the full next year I will definately aim to do the full the following year.cheers talk soon ,keep up the good work

Hi Ian

I'm doing good thanks...nice to hear from you.

I found a physio who has sorted out my bad leg,....a rotated left pelvis, so should be back running very soon.
Have been in the pool x3 a week and kept the biking ticking over, bought myself a black Planet X Stealth in XXS size and it is brilliant! My QR and Specialized are in Small and yet are a bit too big.
Learning to roller ski skating style as well, which is such fun and hope to get to the snow this winter.
Will be looking for your coaching services after Xmas if poss for Barcelona in May and October..assuming the running is OK, will know fairly soon...aiming for a local 10K in Dec.
Enjoy as always your messages.

Take Care

Have you done that one? 8 marathons in 8 days sounds gruelling. Ironman can't be that hard after that! Enjoyed your quotes too! Especially the one about the ultra runner who has the out of body experience. I have that too except my body is always looking like its suffering and then I feel sorry for it.. when I am looking at it...I need to change that!Lol Take Care
