What kind of words of wisdom do you have for a rookie swimmer at the age of 39? I really want to do a half for my 40th birthday, butt when you have to backstroke at 150 meters into the race that's not good. I can train for 3 months 6 days a week and every time on race day the same thing happens. Maybe I am not a good multi tasker, you know breathing and stroking at the same time.
Just read your blog about the marathon. I really suggest standing in ice cold water for 20-30 minutes after a big run. I did it on Saturday after three hours and had none of the normal craps / sore legs.
My plan after Ironman is to forget the massage and go stand in lake Taupo for 30 minutes and drink Champagne!
