Nate - vrbo.com is probably the easiest and best way to go. I didnt book until late last time and had no problem finding something close. I also havent booked anything down there yet...probably won't until mid-late summer.
Forgot to mention in my last place...I recommend NOT staying at the host hotel!
You'll find plenty of places to stay close by. You can get some really nice condo's at a very cheap price. Two years ago we had a two bedroom, kitchen, two bath, living area very large condo for 6 days - cost us about $300.

My schedule for 2010 includes Ironman Couer d'Alene, Ironman Florida, Ironman Augusta 70.3, White Lake Half, and a few other races.
2010 will begin my 4th year competing in triathlons. I have raced in over 30 tri's during the last 3 years including Ironman Florida, the Ironman 70.3 World Championships, several 70.3 events, and the Age Group Nationals.
