My Tri Story:
I remember seeing the news and sports commentaries on the first Ironman in 1984 or so. I then helped create a "Sprint Triathlon" in my community called the Mini-Ironman Triathlon. 300yds in the water of a lake at 4' depth (so you could walk the distance in the water), followed by a 6 mile bike loop out and back, then a 3 mile out and back. The first race was in August of 1985, and the event is still being held every year on the 4th or 5th weekend of August depending on the year. About 8 years ago the real Ironman organization complained and we had to change the name to "The Mini-Triathlon". At the time we never knew the phrase "Sprint Triathlon", and now the phrase is commonplace. I have since completed many of the "Mini-Triathlon"events, and have added a few other sprints and intermediate Tri's along the way. I did the Accenture Olympic distance in Chicago in 2006, and I am training for it now in 2009.
