Profile Information

Relationship Status:
Married
About Me:
I'm an exercise physiology professor at Montana State University (Bozeman, MT). I enjoy training and competing for triathlons in the summer and cross country ski races (skate and classic) in the winter.
My Tri Story:
I did my first tri in the Summer of 1983 (USTS Bud Light Series; Hagg Lake, OR) and have considered myself an in-shape or out-of-shape triathlete ever since. I started doing tris again about 5 years ago after a 10+ year hiatus (going to graduate school). My wife and I do several tris together each summer, but I train for the long ones by myself. Triathletes are very cool people so I really enjoy the social aspect during the post-race glow of finishing a tough race.
Tri Experience:
Age grouper
Tri Distance:
Olympic, 2x Olympic (or approx 70.3 mi/113.1km), Long course (or approx 140.6 mi/225.3km)
Tri Interest:
Training Partners, Training Groups, Event Meet-ups, Friends
My key race for 2010:
Whatever happens at the end of the season...

Hopefully this IamTri will be useful in the future in networking for race travel and stuff... That's what I'm hoping. And I guess I don't know what 4F means, but I hope it doesn't mean that you have a serious injury or that you've needed an epipen recently. Did you know that when I started your ex phys class in fall '05, I had no idea what clipless pedals were? Oh, how we learn...

Hi Dan-Thanks for the info on the Pinticton lodging. I follow-up and hopefully snag a room. Best of luck with your training.

Thanks Dan...it is tough balancing everything as a grad student, but I love the challenge. I was a competitive swimmer from age 10 all the way through knee surgery my sophomore year of college, so I've got the time management down pretty well. I'm also fortunate to have a great advisor in my program, who doesn't care what time you are in the lab, as long as you are getting everything done that you are supposed to. This really helps with fitting in lots of training and lots of labwork. Best of luck to you with training and racing this season!

Thanks for the message. I'm working through the winter weeks with some drills and varied training. Still getting my meal plans and slow weight loss under control. Looking forward to an event packed 2009.

DAN! You do know that you are partially responsible for me getting hooked by this ridiculous sport right? You were the adviser for the MSU club that had Lauren as a member that said "you already bike and run. How hard can it be to learn to swim?" Little did I know that she had created a monster. Thanks, for getting me started with this thing. Hope to see you at some races. Grizzly? Treasure State? I'm not sure which races I'm doing this year.
