"This is a response to Geoff's question about marathon performance versus IM prep. I did Ironman Wisconsin in Sept as my first IM. I'm a runner, just really learned how to swim and I don't like biking very much. …"
"This was my first IM and I had a very fun day and I'll never forget it. Here is my advice:
1) Swim - I was most scared about the swim start and having to tread water for awhile. It turned out, it was not a big…"
"It's just past 5pm here in Denver, and I did not get much work (day job) done at all today. I did get a nice run in this morning and did a masters swim workout at lunch, so all in all, a good day, but when I wasn't training, I…"
"Thanks for the tips everyone. I already checked out simplystu. I'll drive the course before. I'll be conservative the first loop.
I'll see about the computrainer - I saw a demo this past weekend at IM Boulder 70.3.
"I live in Denver and won't get a chance to ride the bike course before the race. In looking at the elevations, the highest point is 1244 ft and the lowest is about 875 ft - doesn't sound too bad but everyone talks about how hilly it…"
This has happened to me before in training for marathons - needing to take time off during the middle of training, Take the time off - it's not always a bad thing. Sometimes the rest rejuvenates you. You may need to cut…"
"Almost exactly a year ago I panicked during my first ever triathlon here in Madison. I am a strong swimmer and swam in college but was not experienced at open water. During that event I swam to the paddlebords and hung on until I had the…"
"Practice, practice, practice. That is the only way you are going to get more comfortable in the open water. Are you planning on any smaller races before IMWI? If not, I would highly recommend finding on or two at the minimum. As much…"
"For those in the Milwaukee area, P3 started their Monday night swim in Pewaukee.
I also had the same experience as you did my first few tris. I took an open water swim class that was fantastic…"
"I agree that it was good that you experienced this now but managed to finish the swim. Living in Florida, we swim in both lakes and the ocean. Swimming in the ocean is a whole different experience but the way to get used to it is to…"
I've run 13 marathons. I decided to change things up and try a tri a few years back. I've done a couple sprints, an Olypmic and a half-ironman. I just signed up for my first Ironman, and I'm not how much I need to train.
My Tri Story:
Just signed up for my first IRONMAN, September 2011. I've done a couple sprints, an Olympic distance and a half-ironman. I have completed 13 marathons. I'm not a very good swimmer and am average at best on the bike.
Long course (or approx 140.6 mi/225.3km)

My best race was...
Chicago Marathon, 2004, 3:07.
Best tri was half-ironman distance, Sept. 2009, Aurora, CO 5:25
