I'm 52 years young, a teacher, and training to do my first full Ironman this year, at Louisville! I have done 13 marathons, with my favorite one being the Great Wall Marathon in China, in 2005. I have done several sprint tri's, 2 Olympic tris, and Steelhead 70.3 twice.
My Tri Story:
Approximately 8-9 years ago, I would not put my face in the water. A marathon friend talked me into joining the YMCA training group for the local sprint triathlon, even though I was scared to death of the swim! At the swim training was a very patient swimmer named Lori, who worked with me and eventually got me to put my face in the water, and taught me how to properly swim. I did the triathlon, finished, and was hooked! I have always wanted to do an Ironman, never thought I'd do a half-Iron, and now i'm doing a full Ironman!
Thanks Barb! The race was great- what a difference the weather makes! I actually had energy for the whole race- did well with my nutrition on the day. I really liked the flat course for the bike- we had a tailwind for the last third of the ride, so I flew back!
Good job today Barb.....I know with your travel issues you didn't get to meet many in the group but great job on making it all work. Sometimes life throws us curve balls when we are thinking fast balls and you just have to adapt and adjust. I hope you got alot out of it and even though you didn't ride the whole course you rode most of it (the loop which you will do twice in IMKY) and you saw the rest by car. Hope you had safe travels back to Valpo. Stay in touch friend!
Sorry, it can take me a while to respond due to all this training and work. LOL! The course is super hilly in parts, and lots of rollers. Very minimal flats. I'm very excited about it - it's like a roller coaster. No cake walk, though. Train hard on long hills.
We can hold 3 bikes on our bones, and there will be 3 of us in my car. We can meet and follow and stay at the same place. I'll ask Luis where he stays because it's close to Transition but not in the city proper so it's cheaper. We're definately going. Stop in my store when you get a chance!
Hey Barbara, I have a few tips I would love to share. Enjoy the training and make sure you get your long distance with the brick training. I had to learn to eat and hydrate better while cycling. There are some hills in KY. Take them easy cause I needed to save some for the run. A tip a guy gave me was to get a few 2-4 over 100 rides followed by 10-15 mile runs. I don't use this site much but I'm gonna tri (hee hee) to log on more often. but my cell is 302-249-2189
Hi Barbara, No i have never run Chicago, only my second marathon but it is my hometown, so that is exciting!
I am too going for complete rather than compete, have also been battling a little ITBS, getting a cortisone shot Monday and hope i can run the whole thing with a smile on my face at the end.
Are you in Chicago? Looks like you are doing Louisville 2010......congrats, I hope I can get into IM AZ online. Thought about Louisville since it was open but I can drive to AZ in one day.
