Yeah, I haven't crossed that bridge yet. I don't think I would do it unless I was in contention of getting the W for that race, probably would need to be pro also.

WElp I can't say just during the bike,,,,maybe a bit...i was soo cold and frozen during March Tri on the bike that I might have! One year during the run portion of a sprint tri.... I HAD to go... and of course you just couldn't stop.... and then aga…

Did the same thing at IM Louisville 2 years ago. Tried at IM Wisconsin last year, but the bike course was so technical I couldn't. That was a bummer. I took on so much water I was hitting the rest room about every 20 miles and 4 times on the run. I…

Anyone doing this race? This will be my first ime doing it, and I hear it is a tough bike and run course. I'm thinking about driving up there sometime to bike the course maybe twice, with a 4-5 mile run afterwards. Would anyone be into doing this?

Remind me never to offer to park bikes at an IM race. At Rockman Half i used the porta-let at the turnaround, but i was also having to fix a derailleur at the time and it was right there. Saw several people on the run course, "watering the plants"…

I know, I know... many of you are already thinking 'eeewwwwww', gross!!!! My friends may decide they don't want to be my friends anymore.... Well, I'm curious to know what you think about it... come on!!, most people do it during the swim, right? no…

About Me:
I've been running tri's for about 4 years now, and ran my first 1/2 IM in July '08 in Lake Stevens, WA. Ran 2 more 1/2 IMs in '09, and will run TryCharleston Half, and Augusta 70.3 in 2010.
My Tri Story:
I came into the triathlon scene almost by accident. Back in the mid 1970s I was diagnosed with Essential Tremor, also known as familial tremor, a neurological condition whose most recognizable feature is a tremor of the extremities. It is often confused with Parkinson’s disease and dystonia, even though they may be totally unrelated. Since then, I took different types of drugs almost daily to help diminish the shaking. More than 20 years later, after consulting with a neurologist in Portland, OR., I decided to stop taking all the meds I was on at that time. Slowly but surely, my tremors increased tenfold, but almost right away, I started to feel more awake, full of energy. Long story short, I decided to do my best to cope with the tremors, and forget the meds altogether. I started working out, loosing weight, and thinking about getting into rowing. One day I saw a sign at the local YMCA for their 'Try a Tri' program. I decided to join, and ever since then, I've been totally hooked on the sport.
(consult your physician before making any changes to your meds).

TREMORS

Have you ever had tremors prior to a race from nerves, cold weather, or anything else (hopefully not from a bad hangover)? have you ever had problems taping your number to your bike, or your helmet, or even snapping it in your race belt because your hands are shaking like jello? do you run with your fuel belt mainly because with your tremors trying to hold, and drink the water given out by race volunteers is an exercise in futility? If you've answer YES to any of these questions, then WELCOME TO… Continue

Hey - I do remember you, I hope that SC is treating you well. I would miss Portland too if/when I have to ever move - but from what I hear the Charlotte area is pretty nice. Good to see that you are keeping up with the tri's and there's a good tri community there. Good luck on your races this year!

Training is ok, I'm just at the point where I want it warmer!!!I ask about the places you lived cause I think I'm always looking for somewhere that is more conducive to cycling-everyone I know here has gotten hit by a car at some point. I plan on watching Twilight myself-I'm almost a little embarrased to say that my girlfriend got me hooked with reading the books (I'm 32). My first race is a hilly half on 5/16-I'm a little freaked out. Hope your training is going well!!!

We have several different rides that we like to do - the current favorites are the "Tour de Waxhaw" in Union Cty, the "Spamerton" ride which goes out to Cramerton & Spencer Mountain, and the "Spring Forward" ride which goes through Lake Wylie and up to Belmont. We've also done some rides up in the Davidson/Lake Norman area, and at Crowder's Mtn. Lots of options! Just send me your email address, and I'll be glad to have you added to the emails - they are sent by another local athlete named Kevin. Hope to see you out there!

Hey Antonio - welcome to Charlotte! There are lots of tri folks here, so you'll fit in just fine. I am not a USAT-cert coach - I coach Team in Training, so I've been thru their cert program (w/ Dave Scott!) but it's not quite as rigorous. The TriCarolina club has a coach, I believe - I personally use a coach from Studio 7 Multisport named Sonni, his partner Lance is also very good. Some friends of mine use Steve Watkins (www.thecustomcoach.com) - he's local, and he also knows his stuff. I'm just finishing up my training for IM Arizona - so I've got lots of good training routes to share. I ride w/ a group of folks every weekend - we do anywhere from 30 - 100 mi, depending on the weather and who's in training - I can get you added to the email dist list if you'd like. Not sure what you are looking for - this is a weekly no-drop ride, very laid back, average is usually around 16-17 mph. The folks who go faster just have to wait up at the turns for us slower pokes. I haven't completely decided on the 70.3 in Augusta yet, but I definitely want to do a 1/2 somewhere in that timeframe - looking at the Patriot's Half in VA as well. A bunch of my friends are doing IM FL next year, and plan to do a Sept 1/2 as prep - so I'm sure that there will be a good group of folks to train with. I think that's enough blabbering from me for now - welcome to the area, hope to see you out there soon!
