Well, I would like to take a minute and applaud our swift and sassy member of the Veggie Clan Patti, who podiumed at her first Tri ever! Way to go kid, you are an animal. She is so fresh at Tri, she did transition practice a few days before the race so she knew what to do. So stoked for you Patti and big pats on the back!

A few things. One is that GNC sells both Coco water and Hemp Protein. They have to order me the coco water cuz they don't sell much of it to the body builders. But at 11 cents per ounce, I think its a good deal.

I wholeheartedly agree about juicing. You need the fiber and the full feeling the veggies and fruit provide and juicing doesn't give you that.

I am doing pretty well on Thrive. My blood sugar nosedives around 2 pm every day until about 5 pm. I'm working on what I can do to stop that. A handful of nuts/etc does nothing.

I'm a kitchen designer so naturally I love to experiment with food. I made the zucchini chips. Quite yummy but I sliced them too thin on the mandoline and used too much coconut oil. Have to try again.

GPD, I couldn't agree more. Your advice on not juicing last month was spot on! I found that when I juice, my pancreatitus would go bananas. Now that I am on thrive, I eat those same fruits and veggies but I consume the entire thing and no pancreatitus attacks. It's amazing and totally true. So the comment on person made to me a month ago on another forum warned me against eating too much fruit. Man, I eat a ton of fruit and I am losing lbs and inches but more importantly (as Thrive is not geared for weight loss), I have more energy during training than I ever had before and.... I don't feel bogged down with nutrition during long training days.

So maybe we should have your wife and Patti (our new Thrive chef) petition the Food Network group for a vegetarian show. I'll help get that worked up the food chain!

My wife has become the most amazing vegetarian cook. She made the almond, sunflower seed burger from Thrive and added a mango chutney. Awesome!

I went to the Western Obesity Society meeting this past week and I came away with this one message, sugar is the devil's food. The research was fairly convincing. That does not mean don't eat fruit. Fruit is mainly fructose mixed with fiber. Sugar is what we get with processed foods. So eat nature's bounty!

Patti, you are going to be nominated as the "iAMTRI Chef!" I will need to give it a try for sure. The coconut water is definately pricy. I haven't tried it with the recovery drinks yet, I'm also burning through the rest of my ISOPUKE protein and other whey that I have left. Another week and a half and then I'll get on the vega recovery and be 100% on board.

I'm gonna find coco water online...its soooo expensive in the store.

And tried amaranth today for the first time. Made it myself. OMG!!!! It's like polenta. Absoultely yummy.... used sea salt and curry. 3 part water per one part amaranth.

Patti, you mean you don't stock coconut water on a regular basis? Lol

I LOVE the smoothies in Thrive. Easy to make...you just need to be prepared...soaking the dates ahead of time...and having the other "odd" ingredients on hand.

Patti, glad you are posting here. Rob, I take a very simple approach to my diet and since I had gastric bypass surgery in July of 2007, I am very limited on the types of food / preparation methods that I can tolerate. With Thrive, I keep things close to their rawest form possible. Mostly steaming vegggies, making soups and eat most fruits and veggies raw. I would say that I am not the poster child for Thrive, Patti is much more involved with her cooking and menu's than I am. So far I have had tons of energy. I actually did a no-no when I switched to Thrive and changed 2 days before a marathon. Odly enough, I had more energy than I knew what to do with. I am seeing gains in all of my workouts and continued loss in inches / pounds. Although Thrive is not about weight loss, I am using it to control the methods of carbs I use for my triathlon training. I'm a believer so far and cannot remember when I have felt this good. -Jeff

OK, I jumped on the wagon as well. Bought Thrive. Started making some of the recipes and had a few "bad" days last week but am really loving it. I have been vegetarian and macrobiotic in the past so it wasn't all new but I did need to eliminate animal protein and add tons more veggies. So far, so good.
