I don't know what all you are talking about? There was no wind that almost blew me off my twice. There was no rain on the run. Oh wait that was my happy place. Overall it was a miserable day (weather wise), but it turned into one of the proudest moments in my life! I finally believe I can push through the darkest of the darkest places and come out feeling like a $1,000,000.

A second thought "Now I want to double the miles?" Oh crap...

Congrats to everyone who finished. It was a tough race. I stuggled with the wind, and had a horrible run, but I am happy that I finished.

It was the hardest thing I have ever done - where do I sign up for the next one!!! :)

Barbara,
This is my first IM and, No, I did not use a coach. I used a training plan put together by Joe Friel. Send me your email address (put it on my Iamtri page) and I'll send it to you. I compiled it into an excel spreadsheet, so it's really easy to follow. Beware: I followed the advanced training plan that he put together, so it's a lot of volume. But, sometimes, volume is good, when you are preparing for an IM.

Other questions are: do you belong to a tri club? Some tri clubs have sponsors through which you can significant discounts on bikes. For example, you can get a screaming deal on a Felt through my club. Do you live near Louisville? If so, get down there as often as possible to ride the course. I've been down there twice this year and I live 4.5 hours away.

Well done to everyone for completing a tough day out there. I couldnt belive how much the conditions changed from when the pros went out to the start of my wave @ 8:28am. That wind really picked up on the bike which just felt cruel on the way back.
As for the run, raining was just plain nasty. I got really cold towards the ends and all the muscles in me legs twitched with cramp for the last 2 miles. But we did it, so well done to all again, good luck in your next race. At least we can say it wasnt an easy day ;-)

Yikes..way harder. I plan to buy a tri specific bike (probably Specialized) and definately plan to train on hills. However, I trained on hills for Steelhead, yet still ended up doing 7-9 mph uphill sometimes, on my Cannondale. There will be a lot of work to do! Did you use a coach for Louisville? Is this your first IM or have you done others? I want to get a coach, but $ is tight, especially if I get a new bike.

The bike at Louisville is harder...way harder. But you can do it. I'm not great on hills either. Remember, going into an Ironman, your training program will be completely different than what you did for Steelhead. There will be a lot of long slow workouts and you'll need to incorporate hill training. You'll want to go down and ride the course prior to doing the race. The run is easier than what you did yesterday. No hills and quite a bit of shade.

Thanks for the couragement Nate. I will most definately have to work on my bike skills, because I was being passed like I was standing still! My fear of Louisville is the bike. Heard it is extremely hilly. Then I have no run left for my run. I'm wondering if it is worse than Steelhead or similar. Best of luck to you in Louisville this year! I want to hear all about it!
