I am doing REV3 half knoxville in a few weeks. I am a strong swimmer but have never done an event where I have to swim upstream in a river. Looks to me from the map that about 1/3 of the swim is upstream. For those of you who have done upstream swims do you have any recommendations on how to approach that portion of the swim? Does downstream give enough assistance to make up for lost time on the upstream?
You can definitely feel the current on the upstream portion. The current felt stronger in 2011 than 2010. I do think the downstream swim makes up for the extra effort at the beginning. Good luck!
