I just got back from the doc's office and have been told to stop training for 2-4 weeks. A probable ruptured bursa sac on my right hip caused by a fall from my bike. Without rest it could apparently take months to heal. Not very painful but very swollen and getting bigger. My question is: if I take 4 weeks off now with IMKY coming at the end of August will I be in any shape to complete, let alone compete, in this tough race? How much can I shorten my taper time in order to get more training in? Does anyone have experience with this type of injury?
This has happened to me before in training for marathons - needing to take time off during the middle of training, Take the time off - it's not always a bad thing. Sometimes the rest rejuvenates you. You may need to cut back on your time goals a bit, but you still have plenty of time to have a good race.
Sounds like good advice. Time goal has definately become secondary to just completing the event after all, since it'll be my first IM that'll make it a PR, right?
I just joined the "my first IM group" and I guess now any advice is kind of late and I do hope you are well and back on track with your training ...
one advice would be to certainly do some type of imaging (depending on details of your symptoms) with hip injury differential would include some conditions not easily diagnosed based on symptoms only ... one would need to exclude avulsion fracture of the trochanter .... pain is so subjective so it is difficult to say no pain no injury .... I had several fractures myself and pain was not always a factor ....
I am also doing IMKY this is going to be my first one ...
hope your training is going well and hip is no longer an issue
