This is a great topic that all of the IM training groups bring up at one point or another, so I thought that since today marks 25 weeks until race day, it would be a good idea to start sharing what we are doing in our training.
Yoga. Iron Yoga DVD specifically. I'm learning to like yoga - used to never have patience for it, but my coach is a big fan. He's changed my form in all the tri disciplines, so I'll continue to be working those out for the next month and then start IM training "for real" Jan. 1.
Sat. 11/28 - This is normally a long training day for me. Today i ate breakfast, did the dishes, confirmed my entry for Ironman Arizona 2011, laid on the couch with my feet elevated, went out to lunch, laid on the couch with my feet up, watched football, had a snack, talked to my wife about going to do a 10 min recovery swim and 10 min recovery water run, decided not to go, watched football, and decided what to do about dinner! hahahaha!
Not in training mode yet... can't believe it's only been a week since IMAZ! Can walk normally now but running, jogging, or even slogging are out of the question.
I am following the Triathlon Geek program and today is a short swim followed by a 2 hour bike ride. My husband has a few IM races under his belt and he is doing the program with me. We'll be doing to ride in-doors because it is way too cold and snowy outside for me. Skip's couch program ;) is sounding more attractive right now but I will motivate!
It's officially IM Texas training season for me. How do I know? Here is what my calender shows: Bike, Swim, Bike.
Bike (am) 35 x 1:00 Power Intervals @ XXX watts with 1:00 recovery 1:30:00 total
Swim: 40 x 50M on 50s total with drills 2800m
Bike (pm) 60 minutes easy with 10 x 1minute one leg drills
With a little less than 25 weeks until IM Texas, I decided to start my 20 week plan early. We're expecting our third child right around peak volume time. So I have some weeks to improvise. 45 minute run this morning and 2500 swim after work.
After a weekend of "football" eating, I am getting back into the swing of things.
60 minutes of intense spin class this morning. (early morning)
500 meter easy swim, that didn't feel so easy. (lunch time)
Ran 7.5 miles early this morning in 57:12 (7:38 pace). This evening swam 2500 meters in 48:16 (about 1:56 per 100m) and then worked out on weights. Weather was crazy warm and humid today, in the 80's, but tonight's low is supposed to be in the 40's, so I'm looking forward to my run tomorrow morning.
12 x 800's @ X min/miles with 200 jogging recovery on the track <------- Hurts! :-) The good news is I get to take my ducky arm floaties to the pool today for an easy swim after yesterday's session left my arms numb. How many more days until the race????
