Looking for options for prep races prior to St. George, around early April that are around half ironman length. Anyone considering this as well? I looked at Rohto Ironman 70.3 in Oceanside CA, but it's sold out.
Wonder if there are any non-Ironman branded races around the southwest area?
I don't plan to do any other triathlons. I spent too much money on this one.
You might be able to find some races here: http://www.trifind.com/iron-h.html.
I am doing the long distance tri at Showdown at Sundown (http://www.sunsetracing.com/events/showdown-at-sundown) in Nevada on March 26th. IT’s only about 60 miles from St. George, and it’s has about 6000’ of climbing on the bike, so I should be a good test.
I find that racing is the best training. train long, race shorter. hard to do for ironman but it can be done.
I was really hoping to do the New Orleans 70.3 this year. The idea of swimming in Lake Pontchartrain is pretty funny/unhealthy to me, but it would be nice to race near family support. The problem is that it is a little too late in April. Being on the 17th puts in within 3 weeks of St. George. I could do both and I have been trying to convince myself it's okay, but I know I'd lose time in Utah. It's no fun priority trading :/ . Now that Showdown at Sundown race would be awesome if some extra travel money appeared in my wallet!
