This question goes out to you IMKY vets and locals - what do you recommend for restaurants in the downtown area? Personally, I'm looking for pasta and sushi. Breakfast spots would be good, too.
GREAT DISCUSSION IDEA......Thanks for putting this up.
I live in Lexington but have been in Louisville a good bit. I know you'll get some good suggestions from local Louisvillians.
>There is an OLD SPAGHETTI FACTORY in DT Louisville that is very reasonably priced and family friendly. Within a few blocks of the start/finish area and major DT hotels.
>Across the river in Indiana there is a popular place called ROCKYS (Italian/Pizza/etc..). Also across the river is Kingfish, Buckhead Mountain Grill and a few other places. A nice little entertainment district right across the river/first exit across.
>I know there is a Panera Bread and Einsteins Bagels right near the finish area on 4th Street. The Einsteins has opened up at 4am in the past race mornings so if you need a coffee/bagel fix on raceday they cater to the triathletes. It is actually connected to the Hyatt Regency and 2 blocks from Marriott, 3-4 blocks from Galt.
>Last year I joined Rick Luken and Laurah Turner (IAMTRIers last/this year) at a good sushi place on 4th Street (away from the river). I don't remember the name of it but it was good. It is not that far of a walk from the finish line but probably 8-10 blocks form the river/Galt House and 5-6 blocks from the finish line on 4th Street.
Again there are others who have more wisdom and culinary knowledge on this topic than I do. I hope they will chime in.
Two more food/drink questions:
1. Is there a grocery store near to downtown?
2. Is beer/wine sold in the grocery store or is KY a package store state?
