If you want them near the Transition Zone, that's the hotel you are looking for.
If you are looking for a hotel near the finish line, I would reccomend a hotel close to 4th street.
We stayed at the Louisville Marriot Downtown and it's way and I mean way closer to the finish line.
Again, the Galt is where you will pick your package, where the expo is and very near where you will drop your things on Saturday and from where you will start on Sunday.
However, if you want them near the finish line, my choice would be the Marriot. It helps to know your hotel is close to where you will finish. Just keep in mind that your bike and bags will be near the TZ and you will eventually have to pick them up, or have someone to do it while you are running (which was my case and it was appreciated not having to go all the way back to TZ after finishing the race.
Both have their pros and cons.
Can someone please help me out on the hotel. I booked the Gault House. This will be my first Ironman so my parents (in their 70s) and my 4 year-old son will be there with me. I am hoping this hotel is convenient to the finish line as well as any other activities. I needa place where they do not have to struggle to walk back and forth too much. Any advice would be appreciated.
Thanks
Tom

Comment by Luke Powell on September 26, 2011 at 2:49pm Ironman Gear
I didn't buy any "Ironman" gear at the store before the race and by the time I got there on Monday, everything was packed up. To my surprise, I can't find anywhere online to buy a polo shirt with the IM logo on it. The IronmanStore website has almost nothing. Any clue as to where I can go to get some gear?
