I'm staying at the Brown Hotel. Not sure about race morning still.
I'm trying to get a buddy to come with me and line-up for me at 3am (actually i told him i'd pay for all his drinks saturday night and for him to just stay out and go straight to the swim start where i will then meet him at 5:30a). Not sure how 'legal' that is, but it seems like a bunch of people are doing it.
It'd be nice to be one of the first ones in the water.
Glad you raised this question, as I hadn't given it too much thought yet. I'm wondering about available parking around the swim area? Will have to check into this. I have a friend coming with me. Wondering about her dropping me off at the swim start or at transition.
I booked a rental SUV and I have a friend staying with me so I figure if it's farther than I want to walk, I'll get her to drop me off in the morning. If that's the case, others are welcome to ride too, until the rig is full.
It is 2.5 miles from the Brown to Tumbleweed's (IMKY swim start) so caravaning might be your best bet. I wouldn't count on much parking down in that area unless you there plenty early.....and then you may run into the bike and run traffic on River Road once the pros and age groupers hit T1.....so if you have a friend who can drive you down and then return the vehicle to The Brown that would probably work best....That way your car will be only about 4 blocks from the IMKY finish line (And maybe your friend could come pick you up after your race!). Here is a mapquest link from The Brown to Tumbleweeds....
Would it be best to be dropped off at the transition and then walk to the swim? Or would it be possible to have who ever drops you off, wait around and then drive you to the swim as well? Is that getting too crazy?
Actually the walk up from Transition is pretty cool and invigorating......most everyone walks to the swim start so there is just this steady stream of fit triathletes making their way through the morning air....kind of surreal, plus you can loosen up your legs a bit (and get your "game face" on). My suggestion would be to be dropped of at transition and then you'll have about a 1/2 mile walk to the swim start. Also, it is well lit even though it is pitch dark outside.....You are walking through what is essentially a downtown park. Hope this helps.
I am at the Galt and will have a Toyota Highlander and could probably make a run or 2 with 3-4 passengers each trip. What might work best would be for us to pick a time to meet up at the hotel prior to Sunday at "O dark 30" as they say, to coordinate.....Or if a bunch of us are at the Sully's gathering on Friday night we could plan it out there.
Also....there is an Einsteins Bagels up near the IMKY finish line (4-5 blocks from the Brown) that last year was open and buzzing at 4am for those who need a good early bagel, peanut butter and/or coffee fix......so I'd be game for running up there for a group order. We can talk more about all of this as we get closer.
Just so you all have it my name is Bob Baney and my cell is 859.475.3232. It looks like most of you have your last names listed on here so if need be I or someone could leave a message at your room.
