I hope to do a 10 minute swim either the Fri or Sat before the race. It seemed to help me when I did my Olympic last month. Standing on the beach everything looks soooo far away but once I got in and played in the water I realized it really wasn't as far as I thought. I ended up swimming my Olympic in 30 minutes and that was even with breast stroking and treading water some because of slower swimmers in front of me. You guys rock! Thank you sooooooo much. I love getting advice, tips and info. Love it!!!! Thank you, thank you, thank you.

Kristen has some great advice. I was all choked up and had tears a number of times at the finish and after. They started miles from the finish but I pushed them out of the way so I could get to the finish line.
Yes, relax at the start. Also, having just read your profile, get your face in the water and wet as soon as you get in. If you can swim around a little before the start, do that. This will have you better prepared for the start and will help keep you from hyperventilating or having a hard time catching your breath during the 1st 100 yards of the swim.
1 more thing, be sure to attend a pre-race briefing. You will likely get some helpful information.

Congrats Kristen! I know those emotions are definitely coming. After I biked the course and ran 5 miles last week I cried...the workout was as long as my marathon runs are...and I wasn't racing...I was working out. So, I can't even imagine the basket case I'll be at that finish line. hehehehe You guys are helping me sooooo much. Thank you. I'm breathing!!!!

Sarah - I did my first 70.3 in May -- just remember when the nerves & jitters start up before the swim that this is the fun part! All the training, hard work, good sessions and tough ones are all behind you: enjoy the payoff of all the hard work! I was caught by surprise at the rush of emotion I had when coming to the finish -- it's a great feeling. good luck and remember to have FUN!

Hey there Skip! I'm very blessed to live only 2 miles from the start line so I'm very familar with the area. I've done 2 Oly and 1 sprint so as you can see basically 1 year at it. :) I'm all over the flip flop idea for sure!!! I did schedule my massage for the day after so I'm happy about that. I like the idea of moderate WALKS. After my marathons I've always been scared to start up with something for my legs and by day 3 I'm soooo stiff so walking...all over it for sure this time. Looking forward this adventure. This is definitely a dream come true! Hope all is going well for you Skip! Thanks for the ideas. :)
