I was getting ready to book my hotel room for IM Louisville 12' and found a good deal over in Clarksville,IN.
I was wondering if i'm going to have any problems getting over the bridge and into Louisville the morning of the race with all the people that will be down there?
Is there even parking anywhere near the great lawn that morning?
Thanks for any guidance that can be provided.
I stayed at the KOA campground in Clarksville last year. Had zero trouble crossing into Louisville the morning of the race. I was able to park in the garage located under the KFC YUM! center, which adjacent to the great lawn.
Thanks guys, appreciate the heads up!
Shouldn't be a problem getting into town. I did stay in Clarksville for a training ride a couple years back. Motel was inexpensive but as Dave mentions not the necessarily the nicest or safest place. It was OK for a night.
yeah, you will be fine. May save you cash and its just a hop over the 2nd st bridge.
Gault house is host hotel i believe. They have a discount rate if you call. Ask for lower level room to avoid elevator congestion. Not sure if they still have rooms available though. My wife and two daughters will be there with me as well and they did great the last time. It is one less stressor for me to stay close. I am a nervous wreck anyway.
I am booked at the Gualt House but thinking about changing to the Hyatt Regency. My parents who are 75 and 80 years old will have my young son with them and the Gualt House may be a bit far of a walk to 4th street live for them. Can anyone chime in on this?
It kind of depends when/how much they want to see you and the whole race.
The Galt is the closest hotel (other than the Springhill Suites) to Transition. At transition they would see the swim finish/out and see you come through T1......they could hang there and watch others come through but won't see you for 5-7 hours unless they shuttled out to LaGrange. Then you're back in T2 and through there rather quickly. Being up near the finish allows spectators to see you at about the 2 mile mark as you run out 3rd Street, then after your first "half" loop (about mile 13) and then at the finish of your race.
The Galt House is about equidistant from transition and the finish line so if they want to see you in both spots then it ideally suited. The Hyatt is about a block from the finish line but farther from transition. Again it depends on how much they want to see/what parts of the race they want to see.
The Galt House is also where WTC is set-up (Expo, race HQs, panel discussions with pros, "the action" spot)....so if that interests you then you might factor that in.
I don't know, but assume, both properties have indoor pools....but you might check that if you son likes the water. Something like a good swim can break up a long spectator day.
