I signed up for IronMan Louisville, KY (29-Aug-2010) today - I think there are a few spots open. Has anyone done this event before? Have any feedback on the course or the volunteers or the venue in general?

This could be the first thing you have already done but I would be buying new tyres, I alwasy found bald tyres a major cause of problems.. take the tyre off completely at home and really check your rim for if there are sharp edges or foriegn objects and lastly, and this annoyed me for ages when it happened to me, is to check the walls of your tyre really carefully, I have a new set and couldn't figure out why still flatting until I really closely inspected the wall and found a tiny little tear. It meant that I could always put in a new tube and pump the tyre us and then as soon as I sat my fat bum on the seat it would pinch flat...

i switched to TUFO tires and have had zero issues with flats. TUFO tubular clinchers can be inflated to higher pressures and dont have issues with pinch flats since the entire air holding tube rides on top of the rims--they are very durable and very fast wheels--they solved my flatting problems--good luck

Does anyone have a suggestion for flat-proofing you bike for an upcoming Ironman? Since July 19, I have had a serious run of flats while training for IM CA, which culminated in going thru 6 tubes on Monday, Aug 3. In other days this would have seriously impacted my mental confidence, but I am bound and determined to find solution. Any thoughts?

chuck and john....maybe i misstated what i meant to actually say. the stories on the application are not considered in getting the slot, but may be used for filling out the television broadcast. the application is the same for lottery and general entry (qualifiers). everyone is asked about special experiences, etc. the entries are probably mined for possible inclusion in the broadcast, but a good story will not get you a lottery slot. i am sure that there are even some stories that may gain an entry after the fact, but these are special cases and still don't diminish the lottery pool. it is always 50 general lottery slots and 100 passport slots. passport members are also included in the general lottery, so they have 150 chances (out of ~7000-10000 entries). there are also sponsor entries and sometimes celebrity entries, but these are always in addition to the lottery and qualifiers. in the lottery, everyone is not notified ahead of time ( i wasn't in my one time out of 12 entries). local media is notified, but it is left up to them to act upon it or not....most do not. hope this helps clear some things up and not add more confusion. have a great season, all.
rock on! andrew breakaway multisport
