If anybody has first hand knowledge about what I should expect April 1st regarding temp, humidity, and wind I would appreicate your input.
Bob, I'll be doing this race for the 4th time (my 8th HIM). The water will be wetsuit legal and is saltwater. The bike is 28 miles straight out and straight back. If the wind blows, it will either be in your face all the way out, or all the way back, so I always watch the weather on that morning to see how I'm going to handle the bike. The run is a 4 loop course, weaving in and out all over the place. It's great because you are constantly with other people, but 3 times you pass right by the chute with the finish line in view, so it can get rather mentally difficult. Both the bike and run are super flat, with the exception of one bridge on the bike, but even it is not really that much of a climb. The temps could be in the 60's and they could be in the 90's, you honestly just never know here. Case in point, 2 days ago it was 87, today the high was only 55, then back up into the 80's again in a couple of days.
Thank you very much for the first hand information. I am really looking forward to this race. Looks like fun. I did get a notice that they made a little change to the run and it is 3 loops this year. Something about running through the airport. Seeing the finishline on loops is something I have had to learn to deal with especially since I am so slow. Oh well - my goal is to always finish upright with a smile on my face. Thank you for the feedback. Hope you have a great race.
Bob, I've never done that event (or any other HIM for that matter), but have been to Galveston a dozen or so times. Temperatures are likely to be between 70 and 80, the winds could easily be sustained at 20mph. It will be windy; probably from the SSE. Good luck, and please let us know how it goes!
