I have recently been suffering from ITBS in my right leg which started in early November. I ran the Columbus Marathon with no pain, but soon after that, it flared up when I started doing runs over 2 miles. I took almost a full month off of running, cross trained with a lot of swimming. I even went to my family practitioner and was put on Prednisone (oral steroid for inflammation) for 15 days. No change. I started running a mile a day this week and have to stop and stretch every half mile because I can feel it tightening up and a bit of discomfort in the knee. I ice it like it is my job and take a warm bath every night followed by a good fifteen minutes of ITB stretches. I was also casted for orthotics which should be in my shoes by the end of December.
Is there anything else I should be doing? Has anyone else suffered from this annoying injury? Any information would be helpful. Should I look into foam rollers? Do those really help? What about differences in the length of my legs. Should I look into that? Shoes? I just bought a new pair of Asics.
I have to figure something out because I'm doing the 1/2 IM in New Orleans in April and the IMLP in July. Any comments, hints, or past stories about ITB problems (with good endings) would be GREAT! Thanks.
