I use this, I joined MarkAllenOnline coaching services and they recommend it.. I tried the mix from there website with protein and it didnt sit well in my stomach then switched to the mix without protein, i love it.. i know you can make your own mix on there(infinit's) website but i use the mix from mark's website.. shorter races i use the recommended 2 scoops per 20oz.. maybe 3 sometimes.. you can also make a stronger concentrated bottle with say.. 6 scoops and when you get water at the aide stations mix the 2.. I also use hammer gels but the best for races is Glucoburst.. its a bit expensive but it goes straight to the system
All I can say is your mileage may vary. I went the Infinit route for Timberman because being a heavier athlete and heavy sweater, I wanted to make sure my nutrition was dialed in. Did a custom mix with them which was fine in training, including bricks (60 mile bike, 3+ mile run) but when it came to race day, once I really got into my run... Oh... The GI problems. It can be an expensive way to learn by trial and error on the custom mixes.
What I have learned in the last year is that everyone's nutrition needs are different. Some people need and handle protein, others it does not sit well. With Infinit, you have the flexibility to dial in your nutrition, or seriously shoot your whole foot off and then some.
I have since switched over to EFS
Infinit WOW! Keeps it simple! Does well in the heat so you can leave it premixed in your special needs bags unlike a LOT of products. I have Never had any issues! Now on the run I live off the course. But I love having it on the bike!
I used to use Infinit- but have found CarboPro to be an awesome alternative. No protein in it- just carbs and calories. Love it! And there is no taste- can mix with anything!
I started using and training with Infinit this year. I have used it on all of my training rides. This includes several long bricks 45+ mile ride with a 10+ mile run, and longer rides 85+ miles followed by a short run 2-3 miles.
I supplement it with bars just to put something solid in my stomach and have not had any issues. I started with their "pre-set" ironman formula and adjusted it by taking the flavor all the way to zero. This became a "custom formula" for me. I find it goes down a lot easier as it warms up when the taste is minimal.
Good luck on your decision!
I just made the switch to Infinit this year and absolutely love it! I would suggest calling them to get a custom mix, especially if you're going to use it for both the bike and run. I have a custom brew (can't handle strong flavor) without protein for the run and with for the bike with a high sodium content (cramp buster). I haven't used it for 140.6 yet but have been testing it in training and for Oly and it's been flawless. I also used it while training for an ultra marathon and was doing 26-30 mile training runs without consuming any bars or gels. At 230 calories per 20-24 oz I didn't get hungry. For the full 50 miles I did need some fruit and pb&j for the home stretch so I switched to water and the occasional soda on the course. I'm doing IMWI in Sept and am going all infinit on the bike with nothing else and a pre mixed bottle for the first half of the run, then going to water and soda for the last half of the marathon.
Definitely call them before you order it, the folks on the phone are amazing and they will educate you on how to use it.
Good luck and see you at IMTX in 2012!
