Bonking, blacking out and crashing? It doesn't seem to happen in multisport or duathlon where there is a bike after a run. Perhaps the current order is the safest but it doesn't seem to be the fairest and it is usually pretty predictable and frankly kinda dull. Don't get me wrong, I love triathlon however I think a new series/format of racing such as this would be well received by the pros who are a little sick of the runners getting all of the glory.
Yeah, good points Bill.
Here in the southern hemisphere we have lots of multisport/adventure races where mountain runs are followed by bike rides. Are you familiar with New Zealands "Coast to Coast"? That's definately not an event for novices. The popularity of triathlon has certainly attracted alot of curious novices and it's great to see.
Perhaps it would only be appropriate for pro's and elite age-groupers over sprint to olympic distances but I think it would be great to race or spectate.
Great idea! Why don't you become a race director and create your own run/swim/bike series where "real" racing will happen?
The mere thought of running, biking and trying to get on a wetsuit afterwards, I would injure myself in transition!
Reverse order, I agree, swimming last would equal drowning, biking last would equal crashing. At least with running last you are not moving as fast as on a bike, you are closer to the ground = less bodily injury if you did fall!
