Hi Neil, all I can say it... you will need T-I-M-E to 'convert'. :)

I used to be a sprinter in my school days & won't run anything over 400m. When I had to do some endurance training, 5K seemed like 'eternity'.

It took me Y-E-A-R-S to slowly change from a 'sprinting' to an 'endurance' athlete. Only after I did my first 42K marathon was I ready to take on the challenge of a full IronMan.

Take your time & proceed a la 'baby-steps', so that you won't get frustrated/upset with trying to rush/do too much. That's all I can say. Good luck!

Ciao,
frenz!

Hello there,

To go from a sprint background to endurance sport, you need to think consistency in your training and mindset. You have to add on two other elements on top of cycling for the sprint tri. You have to learn how to be consistent in each element of the triathlon.

Look for a triathlon club in your area. For endurance sport, you need to have motivation from other triathletes. You might also consider getting a good triathlon coach to help you with your training. You don't want to hurt yourself in training for triathlons.

I myself hired a triathlon coach in my first year of triathlon training and racing five years ago. My triathlon coach knew my weaknesses and strengths and he was able to work with me to help me be consistent and efficient with my own abilities.

Best wishes on your road to triathlons!!!

Jacqueline
